Mia's Baptism

On Saturday, I drove to Palmdale for a baptism for my cousins, Josh and Janice's new baby girl, Mia. I left around 10am and as I was driving to Tehachapi there was still patches of smoke uprising from the hills from the fires.

It got quite apocolyptic when I got into Palmdale. There was a crazy thunder/lightning storm a-brewin'. When I got to St. Mary's Church (I was about 15 minutes late), as they were baptising Mia, thunder rumbled and the rain came. It rained so hard that I could hardly hear the priest speaking. And when the ceremony was over, as fast a finger snap, the rain and thunder went away and the sun came out. My little niece, Milli, was being a such a clown, traveling in and out of the rows of chairs, making funny faces at her Mom and Dad. Talking and laughing loudly while the priest was talking. I couldn't help but laugh at her though when I should have been reprimanding her. She was being a goofball in church. Reminded me of how my brother was when he was young.

Before the reception, we went to my Aunty Chrissy's house to change into something more comfortable. When we got to Josh and Janice's house we were all so starving. Thank God there was lumpia shanghai to hold us over. One of the reasons I love going to Palmdale for family get togethers is the food. My Aunty Loly is one of the best cooks I know. From the flavors to the presentation, she makes any food, especially Filipino food to die for. Ever since my Nanang passed, I never get to have authentic Filipino food, so it makes me so happy every time I go to Palmdale because I can indulge in these dishes that make me feel right at home.

This is baby Mia. Isn't she so cute!? (Monica was being a baby hog haha, I was teasing her that she's ready to have another one).

Whenever we have a fambam, there's always alcohol, and yes, we always start early.

My niece, McKenzi, and I went for a stroll around the block hand in hand. The dusk sky was purple and cloudy and there was lightning. But it didn't stop us from exploring...We tried to find a nice shiny rock to give to her Mom. We walked about two blocks down, checking out everyone's front yard for rocks...I don't think the neighbors cared, haha. It's so amazing how much she talks now and how curious she is about everything. She's growing up way too fast...

Me and cousin Pam

Towards the end of the night, we took off to my Aunty Chrissy's house around 10pm and went swimming until 2:30 in the morning. By that time we were all starving. After coaxing, begging and meowing like hungry cats, me and my Aunt finally got Lyman and Dulce to drive to Tommy's Burgers. They bought $70 dollars worth of chili cheese burgers and chili cheese fries (courtesy of my Aunty). Isn't my Aunt the best?! Yes! I haven't taken a swim in so long. It was so peaceful just floating around and watching the stars. I soaked in that heated pool for almost 4 hours and by the time we all got out, our fingers were like prunes.

As always, I had a great time with the family. I miss them like crazy already =(
