All last week, we've been a little obsessed with watching a show called Oddities.
It's a pretty bizarre show and it's very intriguing and addicting to
watch. I am always interested to know what people's obsessions
are and to find out what really makes their clocks tick. This show does just that,
except the obsessions go far beyond the common vintage/antique
collector. The collectors and Obscura's customers are in search for extremely morbid and creepy
objects. Also, the shop's regular customers are characters in
themselves and I'm weirdly addicted to some of their personalities. All
in all, it's a pretty great show; I can probably watch each episode over
and over again no matter how weird or disgusting it is. It's like
catching a wiff of a nasty fart. You hold your breath because it's so
nasty, but even though you know how stinky that stench is, you just
can't stop smelling it.
Saturday we ate at Thai Kitchen and then we went to World Market because Andrew had a hankering for "premium" treats and more tea, of course. It was Christmas City in there! Loved all the colors =) It just boggles me how fast and rushed these stores get with the holidays just to make a buck. I started seeing Christmas stuff before Halloween Day! Why?! Slow down people! Just bitch slap Thanksgiving right out of the way, why don't cha!
Sunday, Andrew took me to watched WRECK IT RALPH and it was AMAZEBALLS! Such a good and charming story. The short animated film before it was also quite lovely. AND guess what? No one sat behind us this time! ...Until an hour into the movie, that is.
A family snuck into our theatre and of course where do they sit? Right behind us. Their little son kept getting up and kicking the crap out of my seat. He also used the back of my seat as leverage to get up and start convulsing. The little girl with them kept saying, "I'm hungry, I'm thirsty, I'm tired, I want to go home...Mommy...Mommy....Mommmyyyy..." I snapped my whole body backwards a few times to glare at the mom. The mom just kept saying sorry each time. Grrr.... Eventually, they calmed down and I finally got to enjoy the rest of the movie. *Sigh* Happens everytime...
When we got home, we drank some tea and watched Oddities while Andrew did eBay stuff. He kept trying to take pictures of me with the iPad and the pictures were turning out awful. So, I pulled out the Photobooth App and we had a fun time with it. Ptolemy was being shy at first and Shawn was such a good pup keeping still and majestic.
This week has just been odd. People have just been really rude and mean lately. Especially customers. I doodled this friendly reminder yesterday while dealing with a difficult customer on the phone.
It's pretty easy to be mean right back to someone who has been nothing but
rude to you. But it's more challenging and more rewarding for myself to
not stoop to their level and to maintain sincerity and patience towards them, for as long as nature will let me. Kill 'em with kindness, they say! Uh, doesn't always work. Wish it did though! But seriously! This is just not my week at work. I've been getting the bad luck of the draw. I hope my luck changes next week and the unpredictable onslaught of customers with vicious personalities subside.
I am LOVING the weather! Hallelujah! Chilly weather calls for chili in mah belly. I have been making nothing but hearty foods lately. Not only do they satisfied my hunger but they keep me warm too. I've made chicken chili in the slow cooker, made a kale, sausage and white bean soup, and attempted Sheryl's chicken and dumplings. I wish I could take pictures of the soups I cook but the lighting is so terrible at night in our kitchen. When you have bad lighting, pictures of soup end up looking like images of barf. Who wants to "like" or look at pictures of vomit soup? OK...I think I just made myself sick.
Anyway, the week after next, (because next week is Thanksgiving, one of my favorite holidays) I'm going to try and make clam chowder (slow cooker), traditional chicken noodle soup, and a southwest chicken corn chowder. I just need to learn how to make my own bread. I also need to start whipping up desserts but there's so many to choose from on the Interweb! I get overwhelmed and then I end up looking at everything for two hours and by the time I realized that I haven't picked a recipe, I'm tired and want to watch TV or something.
Cannot wait for Turkey Day!
Hope everyone had a nice weekend!
