The Night We Tried to Make Our Own Pizza

One night in June, we decided to make our own pizza. When I used to drive up to Concord a lot, we always ate at this pizza place called Skipolini's and they had some of the best grilled chicken pesto pizza I've ever had. So, we decided to make our own.

We bought mostly all of the ingredients at Fresh and Easy. So glad they even had fresh pesto. I grilled and seasoned the chicken first and chopped it up. Then it was time to form the dough into a round pizza crust. Holy shit this part was hard! I have never worked with pizza dough and boy, was it a different species. It was impossible to roll out. I tried punching it, hanging it on my fists and turning it around (but I was so scared I was going to drop the dough, so I didn't do this very long) and finally after a while, I had a semi-flat and round (kinda) crust.

I went to check on something and when I came back, Andrew had the pizza dough in his hands rolled into a ball. I thought, "Ah! It took me so long to just get it flat!" But I didn't say anything because I enjoyed watching him working with the crust and he did a pretty good job of making an amoeba shaped pizza.

We added the pesto, grilled chicken and tons of mozzarella to the amoeba-shaped pizza.
(Ignore the crazy messy kitchen, it's not always like this. I am a violent tornado when I cook).

It turned out bomb!

We really loved how this pizza turned out, especially Andrew (can you see his excitement?)

So, the next time we attempt this, I'm going to try one thing that Scott recommended and that was make sure your dough is at room temperature. (Scott, btw, makes their pizza dough from scratch ya'll. He and Ashley are professional pizza makers). And the second thing I might do is watch a bunch of pizza crust making YouTube videos so I can kind of get the gist of making a thin round crust. I never knew it was so fun to make pizza at home! I can't wait to try this again soon.

  1. Pizza dough is always hard to roll out for us too. It is the hardest part, I think. I want to get really good and fling it up in the air and stuff.
