Sunday we went to Long Beach. Andrew had to meet a guy to buy some collectibles and he asked me to accompany him. It was a pretty fun ride there. He's been obsessed with this New Kids on the Block song...
I was playing it on my phone and he was singing along and I was trying my best to get footage of him singing but he got all shy haha.
Sometimes, he'll come home from a long night at work and he'll get on the computer and watch that video on YouTube. The first time I heard it, I was thinking..."Weird...why's he listening to this?" He surprises me sometimes...says he likes it because "...it reminds him of the Beatles". Yeah, right!
When we finally got there, Andrew rummaged through his friends collectibles while he talked to me about Obama, eco-friendly cars, Disneyland (I think he really misses working there), Steve Jobs and the future of Apple, and how it's been a pain in the ass trying to put a comp together. The conversations made time go by pretty fast. By the time Andrew was done, I was really hungry. So we asked his friend where a good Thai place was (since that's pretty much all Andrew eats). He mentioned a place on Pacific Coast Hwy called Sofies. It was actually a Thai and Cambodian fusion restaurant. We weren't too familiar with Cambodian food but we'd though we'd give it a shot. It was pretty funny though, when I got up to use the bathroom, they had a makeshift photo booth composed of a old desktop computer and a webcam in the hallway. I was tempted to use it, but there wasn't even a backdrop. It was just the wall with photo frames hanging up of (I assume to be) friends and family of the owners. I should have tried it anyway haha.
When Andrew ordered our Thai tea he asked if they had boba and the waitress looked at him as if he was stupid and then giggled at him as she shook her head "No"...
We ordered a hot pot of Tom Kha. I had Pad Thai and Andrew had some chicken curry (Cambodian style). The food was pretty good. A little different to my taste, maybe because it was fusion. My taste buds were getting confused. I was expecting Thai but I kept forgetting there were hints of Cambodian flavor too. Kinda like the first time my cousin Maricar took me to have my first big bowl of ramen. My taste buds were all confused because for some reason I was expecting it to taste like pho. Eventually my mouth got over the whole unsureness regarding the flavor of the broth and I ended up eating (and drinking) the whole thing up.
Andrew couldn't wait to take a picture with this truck. He was eyein' it the whole time since he spotted it from the restaurant window.
We were lucky the restaurant was in a pretty good location too. We ended up leaving the car parked by the restaurant and we walked around. We did a lot of antique shopping. We hit up 2 stores right across the street from each other. While Andrew hunted for records, I took pictures of things with my phone I thought were interesting. The Vignette Camera App is a pretty fun app to mess with. Loads of effects and tons of pretty cool results.
This was a fun mirror. It was actually an advertisement for non-fat milk, haha.
I liked these glasses.
I remember a loooong time ago, my parents had a machine exactly like this by the entrance of the liquor store.
A fake mouse in a box of peanuts. They wanted $200 for this thing!
Just kidding...I don't think it was for sale...
Tons of old signs.
This room was my favorite.
Then we went to Fingerprints and I talked to my Aunt while Andrew record shopped. Andrew wanted more coffee so we went back to Belmont Shores and decided to hit up that Polly's place we tried to go to last time but they were closed. I liked the coffee and it was a super cute coffee shop. Very cozy. But Andrew said their coffee sucked, even though he drank the whole thing. We checked out the Buffalo Exchange and I didn't find anything. This long ass street (I think it was 2nd St.) has shops and restaurants galore. We kept walking and checking everything out. Then we ran into a Peet's coffee. Andrew said, "Time for round 2!" ...That crazy boy....
On our way home we got super lost because the GPS went frickin' crazy! It was telling us to do U-turns all over the place...holy moly! Anyway, we ended up finding the freeway and trekked on home...
...while listening to Eminem...haha...
I don't know why I've been on an Eminem kick, but I'm sure it will pass.
It was a pretty fun mini trip =D
