This blog I read does these writing prompts and I like that she encourages others to answer these questions on their blogs. I really like how simple they are and how well they define one's current mood/state, so I'm going to give it a shot.
READING:
I accepted a Goodreads challenge to read 10 books in a year. I've already read 6, haha. Maybe I should up my challenge to 50.
So far, I've finished in the month of January:
1. Ready Player One
This is probably one of the most highly imaginative original pieces of literature I have read in a very very long time. I tend to stick to the same genres here and there, that have plots that are pretty predictable but man, am I glad I took a detour and stumbled upon this one. If you love retro video games and 80's pop culture, you'll love this book.
2. Isla and the Happily Ever After
The third book in Stephanie Perkins' cutesy romantic trilogy. I don't really want to call it a trilogy or a series because they're all different stories, just the characters intertwine within the main plots. But if you're a sucker for cutesy, romantic, goofy, clumsy young love kinda stories, this book and the others are definitely for you.
3. Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children
I finally got around to reading this book. I think after I found out Tim Burton picked it up and was going to turn it into a movie, I kicked my ass into high gear and decided to read it. I had no idea what to expect and was in for a very creepy yet wonderful surprise of a story. The real vintage photographs will haunt you and will definitely give some macabre feelings to further fuel your imagination as you read along.
4. The Boy in her Dreams (The Girl In Between #2)
This was a pretty crazy book compared to the first. The first book is about a girl who has KLS, which is a disease where she has abnormal sleep periods where she'd sleep from anywhere to a week to 6 weeks at a time. During those times, she has lucid dreams in which she meets a boy that she later finds out is real and who is in a coma. So as she communicates with this boy through her dreams, she tries to locate him in real life and finds out there's more to her condition than just a sleeping disorder . The second book, brings it to another level which I could probably categorize it under romance sci-fi. It's totally cheap too. Currently .99 cents if you like to read on your Kindle, or Kindle App on your phone.
Books I finished in February so far:
1. Sugar
Wow was this a very emotional read for me. It's about an overweight girl who deals with emotional/physical abuse from her family and continued bullying at school. You really get into this girls' head and her heart and just root for her the whole way. She meets a guy who accepts her for who she is and becomes her only friend. It is then she starts to awaken from her stupor. She starts to realize the things that she has mistaken for what's best for her is really abuse, whether it was coming from her own family (emotional and physical) or self-inflected upon herself (over-eating). As her home life starts to get worse and worse, with the help of her friend, she starts to change her life for the better and builds a new life with the confidence she never knew she had. Lots of surprises and hard to read parts but I enjoyed this book a lot.
2. After You
OK, if you've never read the first book, Me After You, I highly recommend it. Made me cry like a baby! This was a pretty good continuation of Louisa's story. I can't really get too much into it without spoiling the first book so that's all I have to say about that!
And finally, the books I am currently reading: Wallflower, by Drew Barrymore and Sleep Donations by Karen Russell
EATING:
Cookies. I've been baking up a storm. I think I developed a new appreciation for cookies, especially freshly baked ones. They are the best right out of the oven, and my go-to treat when I have a sweet tooth. However, my sinuses/severe allergies have gone to town with my whole face for the last few days, and unfortunately my taste buds have gone missing. I haven't been eating too much variety nor having any cravings since I can't taste a damn thing. The top ones are chocolate with chocolate and white chocolate chips and the bottom pic are called brookies (half chocolate chip cookie+brownie cookie).
THINKING ABOUT:
As I approach my due date, I am definitely getting a little more nervous about labor and delivery. It's helped though, hearing labor stories from friends and ladies at work who've shared their moment. Some way worse than others but no two stories are never the same. I love that everyone's experience is so unique and non generic. It makes me feel more at ease and accepting about the unexpected. No matter how much I prepare, I just have to remember no one is 100% prepared for what will actually happen. I will just keep praying that everything will be OK and I just have to trust myself and believe that my body will do everything it's supposed to do when the time comes.
LOOKING FORWARD TO:
Of course, meeting baby girl! But also getting the crib. My MIL offered to buy our crib which is so awesome and kind of her!! I am hoping we get to order this week. I have an idea of how I want the nursery to look but I think once the crib is in there, my creative juices will start to flow. I am also looking forward to using my free ultrasound to see baby girl again, especially in 3D, which we'll probably be booking an appointment with Girl Alex soon. I am just so curious to see how her features have developed.
LEARNING:
Or realizing...how much I am obsessed with my phone, haha. Today was Ash Wednesday. Luckily there was service on campus so I didn't have to drive to a super packed church. But I thought about what I could give up for Lent since I usually choose alcohol. I could have totally chose that and caffeine haha, but I wanted to give myself a challenge. I decided to quit Instagram and Snapchat (my two main sources of social media) and not pay attention to my phone so much for Lent. I almost failed today because I was trying to find a photo on my phone and I knew it was on someone's Instagram account. But it was a good thing I already deleted the app from my phone before I could look. I'm pretty impressed on how productive I've been since I've been home and it's only been the first day! Ha!
LOVING:
Sleep. Before my sinuses/allergies went crazy I have been sleeping quite well and I've been cherishing every moment of it because that's all I hear...NO SLEEP FOR YOU WHEN BABY COMES!!! And gel nails! I actually gave them a shot last weekend because I wanted my nails to be fancy for February and I have become a fan! I hate when I put so much time and effort on doing my own nails only for them to get smudged or chipped the next day (or an hour later). So it's been really nice to have perfect looking nails for this long. The lady was super cute too...she was like, "I make a design...just fo' you!" And last but not least, feeling baby girl kick and move all the time in my belly. It's the best feeling in the world :)
HATING:
The warm weather and Spring time. Only because it means severe sinuses and allergies for me, and because I don't get to wear coats or sweaters anymore, and because Spring means Summer. Booo!!! I hate those nasty flower trees that smell like clorox bleach and ammonia too, or pussy trees, according to a coworker of mine. I have to walk past them everyday on my way to work...blah. Nothing but STANK!
I love this! we haven't chatted in a while so its nice to know what you've been up to :) I'm looking forward to seeing you guys and baby girl, too!! Gimme a call whenever you're ready!
ReplyDeleteThanks girl! We look forward to it too :D It will be soon, I can't wait!
DeleteOmg! Pussy trees?! I know what you're talking about, I used to pass some on my way to Jr high. Those are the worst smelling trees!
